Barbecue cooking might not be your thing, but the Mississippi Cornhole League is seeking participants for its scheduled tournament to be held Saturday, June 1 in conjunction with the Grillin N Chillin at the Fields event.

Grillin N Chillin at The Fields set May 31-June 1

The first-ever Grillin N Chillin at The Fields -- an opportunity for back-yard grillers to form a team and prepare their chicken, pork rib and pork loin specialties for cash prizes -- is set for Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at The Fields of Waynesboro sports complex.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS: Teams of up to four people each can participate in the event after filing a registration form along with a $100 entry fee. (REGISTRATION FORMS CAN BE DOWNLOADED BELOW.)

VENDORS: We are actively seeking vendors that can provide food items as well as non-food items unique and specific to the event (for example: knives and barbecue gear). 

JUDGES: Any Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) certified judge is welcome and encouraged to join us ... all KCBS guidelines for competitions will be observed.

Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show planned June 1

The Grillin N Chillin at the Fields Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held Saturday, June 1 at The Fields of Waynesboro, and participants are being sought for the open class competition.

Pre-registration is open now and is $15 for participants and on-site sign-up is $20 the day of show.  Top of Show trophies will be awarded along with a Mayor's Choice trophy and dash plaques will be given to each registered vehicle.

Grillin N Chillin Back-Yard team entry FAQs

The following rules have been established for the Grillin N Chillin at The Fields 2019 Back-Yard teams participating on Friday, May 31 through Saturday, June 1.

  • Entry fee is $100. This entry fee allows you to enter the determined categories to be judged under Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) rules. You will have to cook the required TWO meat categories to compete for Grand Prize money at this event.  The meats will be chicken, pork rib for Grand and Reserve Champion prizes and Pork Loin for the Ancillary category.  The competition will follow KCBS Rules and Regulations.
  • There will be a LIMITED supply of electricity available. If you have your own generators please bring them in the event there are not enough power outlets. There will be plenty of water supplied. We ask you bring your own outdoor extension cords and water hoses of at least 100 feet to ensure you reach a connection. 
  • ICE will not be available, but there is a "Twice the Ice" kiosk located in town, several convenience stores and grocery stores including a Walmart Supercenter nearby.
  • Each team will be provided a 20 foot-by-20 foot space.  Spaces will be assigned as you arrive. Only your cooking rig will be allowed in this space. No motor vehicles will be allowed at the space or on the playing surface of The Fields.  Vehicles will be parked in a designated area in close proximity to the cooking area. If you have a motorhome or larger cooking trailers, please let us know beforehand so we can make accommodations for you. Please make sure you list the size of your trailer and /or motor home in the application so we can make sure we make arrangements.
  • Each team will supply their own cooker(s)
  • NO refunds
  • Cook-off will occur rain or shine.
  • Prize money will be as follows: Grand Champion $600, Reserve Grand Champion $300, first thru third places in each category with $150, $100 and $75, respectively.
  • Turn-in times will be as follows: Chicken 12:30 p.m., Ribs 1 p.m., and Pork 1:30 p.m.
  • Teams are limited to FOUR (4) persons per team.  Each team member must be listed on team sheet.

Vendor Requirements

Here are the Vendor requirements for the Grillin N Chillin at The Fields event on Saturday, June 1:

  • All booths must be set up by 10 a.m., Saturday June 1, 2019 NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Booths spaces are on a first come-first served basis and food trucks will be assigned a space based upon size.
  • Any and all food vendors will operate by Mississippi State Department of Health codes and guidelines.
  • Please bring a generator and potable water supply in the event there is not enough services available.
  • No ALCOHOL can be sold by vendors.
  • Drinks will be sold at the refreshment tent unless vendor makes a specific item.
  • We have the right to refuse/limit vendors based on market saturation. Example: Multiple funnel cake vendors ... two would be a maximum we could handle. If serving other foods, you may be asked to exclude an item to allow for a full variety of foods at the event.
  • Nonfood Vendor items need to be unique and specific to the event.  Example: Knives and BBQ equipment would be great.  Bath bombs would not be a good thing to sell.
