WCSL seeking referees, plan officiating clinic

The Wayne County Soccer League is putting out the call for referees for the 2019 fall campaign. A referees clinic will be held prior to the season to spotlight rules, regulations and codes of conduct. Wayne County area high school soccer players are especially invited to consider serving as game officials. Officials are paid for their services. To inquire about becoming a referee, visit any of the registration programs planned for Aug. 3, 6, 8 and 10.


The Wayne County Soccer League is proud to announce registration for its fall competition season that will run September through November.  For those who signed up for spring soccer, all you will have to do is to click "REGISTER" when our online sign-up goes live on The Fields of Waynesboro Website. For those signing up for the first time, we will have several in-person registration programs:

Saturday, Aug. 3 -- 9 a.m. to noon in the Waynesboro-Wayne County Library.

Tuesday, Aug. 6 -- 5 to 7 p.m., in the Waynesboro-Wayne County Library

Thursday, Aug. 8 -- 5 to 7 p.m., Location will be announced

Saturday, Aug. 10 -- 9 a.m. to noon in the Waynesboro-Wayne County Library.

Games will be played on Saturday mornings beginning around 9 a.m., and should be completed around or shortly after lunch. The one exception related to time required at The Fields will be tournament play.

The Fields of Waynesboro soccer fields

The Fields of Waynesboro soccer fields were constructed in late 2018

The Fields of Waynesboro is the 21st Century recreational sports facility for Waynesboro and Wayne County, Mississippi, as well as surrounding communities and counties in Southeast Mississippi and Southwest Alabama. Located on Azalea Drive (Mississippi Highway 184) in Waynesboro, this almost 90-acres site will ultimately become home to eight baseball-softball fields, seven soccer fields, walking tracks and playgrounds to name some of the amenities planned. Thanks to the financial generosity and in-kind construction support of community benefactors, businesses and industries, two regulation soccer fields have already been constructed with more improvements on the way. We invite you to join in our efforts to build something unique in Southeast Mississippi -- a venue that will draw together families and communities.

Partner with us to build the future

More than $68,000 in cash donations have been raised since May 1, 2018, to begin development of The Fields of Waynesboro.

The Wayne County Recreational Sports Authority and the Wayne County Economic Development Foundation have spearheaded the effort to build The Fields of Waynesboro. Long-term plans call for the construction of eight baseball-softball fields, up to seven soccer fields, walking tracks and playgrounds. The Wayne County Economic Development Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is accepting donations for the development of this recreational facility. Tax-deductible donations can be made to the Foundation in person at 610 Azalea Drive in Waynesboro (across from the south entrance to the Courthouse) or by mail to Wayne County Economic Development Foundation, 610 Azalea Drive, Waynesboro, MS 39367.
